Our Campus

Dunn sits on 55 acres of charming buildings, green playing fields, and grand oak trees on California's central coast. Just thirty minutes from Santa Barbara, Dunn includes a middle school for grades 6-8, and a high school for grades 9-12.

The distinctive Dunn culture is decidedly collaborative, hands-on, friendly and open minded. Learning takes place not just in classrooms but in well-equipped buildings all over campus.

The Sinclaire Art Studios feature a painting studio, ceramic studio and sculpture yard, darkroom and multimedia classroom for digital photography and film-making students. Designed to take advantage of natural light as well as new technology, the Sinclaire Art Studio is the place to take in an art show or student film.

Created and run by students, the Earwig Café is more than just a cool place to study with friends or get a snack. Student employees learn how to run a business and all profits are invested by students and used to fund a student scholarship.

The California sunshine is a backdrop for year-round outdoor sports and activities. Students in the middle and upper school enjoy using six tennis courts, four athletic fields, a pool, gymnasium, volleyball courts (indoor and outdoor), basketball court (indoor and outdoor), rock-climbing wall, mountain-bike track, and ping pong facility.

The middle school has a long tradition of "carpe diem" - evident in the school garden and massive rope swing that flank its homey, sun-filled classrooms. Middle schoolers enjoy their own space on campus, with decks, grassy courtyards and room to have fun with friends.

The high school classrooms are equipped with technology, and designed for seminar-style classes. Students lead all-school assemblies in an oak grove equipped with wooden benches. Almost any month of the year, students enjoy lunch at picnic tables outdoors - although the dining hall offers ample indoor seating for the rare wet or cold day.

Boarding students live in attractive dorms in the heart of campus. Each dorm includes housing for resident faculty families - many with kids, pets and all the bustle of daily life. Each dorm includes for student use: a full kitchen, comfortable lounge with fireplace and TV, ample laundry facilities, cleaning supplies and multiple patios.

All Dunn students enjoy access to a well-stocked library, a computer lab, science center with modern lab space, performing arts theater, music rooms, student lounges, spacious dining hall and school store.
