Academics » College CounselingCollege CounselingCollege Counseling is available to Dunn students beginning in the 9th grade, with particular emphasis placed on providing ongoing, individualized support and advice in junior and senior years. The College Counseling process at Dunn includes individual appointments with students, group information sessions for both parents and students, meetings with college representatives who visit Dunn, preparation for and administration of the PSAT and SAT exams, and assistance with the application process. Students have ready access at all times to a full-time college placement counselor. The goal of Dunn's College Counseling program is to ensure that students gain acceptance to the school of their choice. The counseling process is centered on helping students identify those colleges and universities that are the "best match" for the individual. Over 90% of Dunn students are accepted to schools of their choice. The college counseling office provides numerous resources and support to help students determine which colleges and universities match their personal needs, goals, and requirements. It also provides students and parents with a framework for the application process, which includes research, college fair attendance, creating a list of options, support and scheduling for applications. Additionally, it facilitates access to SAT preparation workshops, college fairs, and other preparatory resources. Workshops and interviews with students begin once the PSAT and SAT results are determined. For parents, the college counseling office holds twice yearly workshops on the placement process and meets with individual parents during Parents' Weekend in the fall and spring semesters. Parents are always encouraged to contact or use the College Counseling services at any time for support. Mrs. Tena Kline has been counseling students at Dunn for several years.
