It's pretty easy to help people, and then you feel good about yourself and think, 'I could do that again'." — Diana Pak, Class of 2004 When Tony Dunn founded Dunn School in 1957, he strongly believed that community service was an essential aspect of developing the character of young adults. In the founding days, Dunn's campus was largely built and maintained by faculty and students working together. Experiencing the value of giving one's time and energy to the community not only helped students build self-esteem and foster compassion; it inspired deep loyalty and school spirit. Students were proud of the fact that the school could not function without the responsibility and service of each member in the community. Today community service is integrated into every aspect of campus life with students and faculty participating in a variety of service programs on a weekly basis. Students can volunteer for weekly service trips during their free time, as well as participate in scheduled events as a class. Past years' community service projects have included hosting the Alzheimer's Walk and the American Cancer Society's' Rally for Life on campus, collecting donations for Toys for Tots, planting trees, and visits to Senior citizen homes. |
