The sports and physical education programs at the Middle School are built around the principle that children at this age have widely varying physical abilities and interests, some competitive and some not.
The physical education requirement may be met through competitive team sports, or through our regular P.E. class. The P.E. class has a rotating emphasis on primarily non-competitive exercise and conditioning activities such as biking, jogging, swimming, field sports, climbing, and track and field.
DMS is part of the Santa Ynez Valley Middle School League. The Dunn School campus has exceptional facilities for year-round athletics including a gym, swimming pool, six tennis courts, climbing walls, and multiple sites for baseball and field sports. Depending on student interest and our ability to field teams, girls and boys may have the opportunity to participate in volleyball, basketball, tennis, baseball and track.
Hike, Bike and Surf Clubs
On a weekly basis throughout the year our Hike Club ventures out, rain or shine, to explore local wilderness and seashore areas. Each trip usually entails a healthy balance of natural science and fun. A hike through the natural wonders of our local mountains may end with a wild frolic in a swimming hole.
The Bike Club organizes family bike rides around the Santa Ynez Valley and the Surf Club helps students learn how to surf or improve their surfing skills.
