Since its founding days, Dunn School has subscribed to the belief that participation in organized athletics is essential to the well-rounded development of our students as they challenge their own perceived limitations. Through athletics, students are encouraged to develop confidence and leadership skills while learning the value of teamwork and fair play. Athletics allow students to learn to accept very concrete differences in ability levels among individuals and to learn to work with others to accomplish specific and well-defined goals. Dunn's coaches place an emphasis on participation and good sportsmanship, with the goal of participation of every team member.
The relationship between student and teacher is further strengthened through the Dunn athletics program. With each faculty member serving as both teacher and coach, students have the opportunity to share in their teachers' passion for a particular sport.
With multiple team levels for each sport, from varsity to novice, every student finds his or her niche in sports activities. All Dunn athletes receive individualized attention from the talented coaching staff, some of which have either played professionally or trained professionals. Gifted athletes have the opportunity to receive recognition in California Interscholastic Federation level competitions, while concurrently mentoring teammates with lower skills levels.
All students participate in a minimum of two interscholastic teams during the course of the year. Students may choose to participate in other alternate activities for one of the three athletic seasons. Dance, drama, and fitness are among additional sports possibilities.
