Today we played Cate for the second time. All in all we played a really good game. We started the game off with the first goal and with some of the best defense we've ever had. At halftime we were up 6 goals to 2 goals. By the end of the second half we were tied at 11 and we went into overtime. Unfortunatly we lost 14 to 12. We played very hard and left it all out on the field. Hannah led us in scoring with 5 goals, Sazan scored 3 goals, Areli scored 2 goals, and Audrey and Nikole each scored 1 goal. Jillian also had many great saves in the goal and won several one on one situations.

We came out strong against Laguna in the first half 11 to 4. Nikole started the game for us by scoring the first 3 goals. In total she led us by scoring 5 goals. Katie Shea, Vanessa Martin, and Areli Diosdado all scored 3 goals each, Hannah Brown scored 2 goals and Audrey Volmer and Julia Jones scored 1 goal each. The Final Score was 18-7--a solid victory for Dunn. We played a very strong game as a team in the way of our transitions and several people played positions they had never played before. Jillian had many good saves. Vanessa Martin had an amazing left handed top-shelf shot with impeccable placement. Hannah Brown had many draw controls because of her ability to "stretch" aka extend the lacrosse stick. Nikole had an overwhelmingly good game not only because of her goals, but also because of her team support:always being a trail, playing help defense and many more things that make her an amazing player.

On Wednesday we came out against Midland on their field and won 13 to 4. Julia Jones was our lead scorer with four points and she and Kelsey completed their first Hat Tricks. Areli and Hannah each scored two points and Katie and Nikole each scored one. Vanessa Martin had an outstanding game starting some of the plays up with great ground balls and good passes. In the second half our passes in general improved and we were able to move the ball around more which has been a team goal. For our seniors, Jillian, Hannah, Jocelyn, Sandra, and Felicia, this was their last game to be played against Midland and they all played well.

Nikole Layton, Hannah Brown, and Areli Diosdado led the team, and received the game balls, Nikole scoring 4 goals, and Areli and Hannah with 3 each. Mary Essa, Sazan Pasori, and Audrey Volmer each made 1 goal. At this point Dunn is first in the league, and so will be attending the CIF championships, but we hope to continue to be undefeated. After a fifteen year dry spell, on Saturday March 27th, the Dunn Girl's Lacrosse Team defeated Thatcher. We beat them 8 to 7, the first time since 1995. Hannah Brown and Jillian Keller received the game balls, Hannah for her 3 goals, and Jillian for her 18 or so saves. Many players had the best game of their lacrosse careers: Nikole Layton, Sazan Pasori, and Kelsey Barenborg made one goal each, and Katie Shea scored two goals. We played this game with Janaya Reid, You Bin Meng, and Jayne Pugh injured, and Areli Diosdado away. When we play them at Dunn with these players back, we hope for another amazing game. Thank you to those who have been attending our games!

We came out today against Midland looking for another win to add to our cheer. We started strong with Areli winning the draw and soon after scoring a goal. At halftime the score was 4 to 0 and we were winning. Jillian made some good saves in goal and we continued to work on our transitions as a team. The offense continued to spread out around the eight and that helped to organize us. The defense also continued to improve by crashing towards the ball and playing help defense. All in all we played well as a team working the ball and working on our passes. We finished the game 9 to 0 with Areli scoring 4 goals and Julia, Kelsey, Katie, Sazan, and Nikole all scored a goal each. Nikole had a great all around game especially winning the draw for us in the second half.

On Saturday we had many firsts. It was our first Condor League Game and our first home game. We came out strong against OVS and won the draw. At halftime we were winning 9-0 and were making smart choices in our passing. Our transitions greatly improved over this game and we really came together as a team. One of our team goals for the offense was to spread out around the eight and work on our passing and our cutting. We achieved that goal and also improved our ability to roll to crease. We finished the game at 12-0 with Kelsey Barenborg, Mary Essa, and Nikole Layton scoring twice and Julia Jones, Audrey Volmer, Areli Diosdado, Sazan Pasori, Tiffany Kao, and Katie Shea all scoring one point. This was a great first game and all of us are looking forward to playing Midland on Wednesday. Go Earwigs!!!!!

Over this last weekend the Dunn Girl’s Lacrosse team traveled to Pasadena to go to the Rose Bowl Lacrosse Tournament. We left early Saturday morning, but arrived slightly late, and had about ten minutes to warm up before our first game against El Dorado. Throughout the game it thundered and rained, and in the second half when we were losing we had to stop the game because of a chance of lightning- given that we were practically running around with lightning rods. So our first game was counted as a loss, and our team huddled in the bus as we waited for the possibility of lightning to subside. Next, we played Sage Hill. We were better matched to this team, the game was a tie, but was counted as a loss because of the score of our previous game. In this game Mary Essa scored her first goal! Lastly, we played Culver City, and Tiffany Kao made her first goal, and Felicia Garcia made two goals, as well as Katie Shea, Hannah Brown, Sazan Pasori, and many others had their first goals of the season during this game. We won this last game 11 to 1, and all in all the tournament went very well, and gave our team a great chance to work out some kinks and to play together. We returned to Dunn around 8 pm, and with our final cheer, “Dunn Women’s Lacrosse” we added a clap for our win and a snap for our tie. This weekend, March 13th we play Ojai Valley School in Ojai and will hopefully have two claps after this game.
