DMS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL SEASON REVIEW, 2009
The DMS girls volleyball team had a tremendous season.

Our A Team consisted of all 8th graders with a single 7th grade student.  DMS won most of their games this season by playing consistent “pass, set, hit" volleyball and placed 4th in the end of season tournament.  Coach Michelle deWerd commented that, "Winning was exciting but was not our only goal; how we played as a team and supported one another was important.  The girls' positive communication created an atmosphere of no fear of mistakes. We are very proud of how the girls played our game throughout the season, representing our school, families and themselves well."

Two players in particular, setters Alexandra and Addison, elevated our competitiveness in the games toward the end of the season.  They found their voices, became team leaders, were always positive and smiling even when they messed up.  Both girls exhibited great personal growth and mental toughness when it came to close games.  They both made phenomenal plays with their setting, tipping, digging out of the net, and plays off the floor.

Our B Team was primarily composed of brand new players to the game.  Coaches Michelle deWerd, Polly Walker, and Eric deGuin agree that the girls exhibited remarkable improvement from their first game through the end of the season.  They played with great enthusiasm and supported one another on and off the court.
