2009-2010 GIRLS BASKETBALL
Dunn Middle School is fielding A and B Teams in Girls Basketball this year. All 8th grade girls will play on the A Team, and most 6th and 7th graders will play on the B Team. Our two fabulous coaches are Randy and Ken. Practices started on Wednesday, January 27th. The girls have a respectable 12-game schedule.
Record
A Team: 2-3
B Team: 1-1

Our girls won their first game of the season against Vista! After less than two weeks of practice they have a fair amount of work to do before they become a well-oiled machine, but for their first game they showed a lot of hussle and spunk. Emma was the high scorer with 9 points total. She pulled three offensive fouls, and her free throw percentage was an impressive 50%. Katri, Alex, and Hannah each scored two points for a final score: Dunn 15 - Vista 9.

With a win against Charter School and losses to Santa Ynez and Jonata, we have an even record. The two games we lost were scheduled during our February Break and were played without our full A Team. In fact, we only had five girls, half of them from the B Team, play in Tuesday's game. Despite this, they managed to score 14 points. The girls continue enjoy the game, improve, and play with heart.

Our A and B Teams played Los Olivos this week. The B Team had their first win of the season, 9-5. Sophia scored all but 2 of Dunn's points, and Hope showed a side of herself that we have never before seen. In addition to scoring 2 points, at one point in the game she aggressively struck the ball from the hands of an opponent! I guess Hope is not only the nice, quiet child we see in class...
The A Team had a tougher go. They fought hard and long until the very end, and were outscored by just one basket, 14-16. Emma was the star of the show with 8 points; Katri and Gee helped with 2 points each. The teams have already improved a tremendous amount and continue to improve with every practice and game. We are very thankful for our dedicated coaches, Randy and Ken.
