Arts

All Dunn students are encouraged to discover and develop their interests and talents in music, art, and drama. To ensure that each student has an opportunity to explore this aspect of their education, the Fine and Performing Arts Program at Dunn offers students a broad spectrum of artistic experiences and opportunities from saxophone to ceramics to multimedia. A selection of beginning, intermediate, and AP courses are offered in each discipline to accommodate and encourage all levels. Classroom instruction is designed to build intellectual, perceptual, and technical skills through inquiry, observation, problem solving, performance, and analysis. Courses are structured to create a deeper understanding of the visual and performing arts and to develop critical thinking skills. Students may take electives in the arts every year. One year of fine arts, music or visual, is required for graduation.

Arts at Dunn

A modern, state of the art Fine Arts Center provides the setting for instruction in painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, and film making. Art courses offered are:

Ceramics
Digital Film Making
Photography I and Photography II
Studio Art I, Studio Art II, and AP Art

Music

Music can be heard around the clock on Dunn campus. Upon a mid-day visit to the Firestone Performing Arts building, visitors might hear students engaged in jazz, band, string, vocal ensemble or individualized instruction. Performing opportunities are numerous, as musicians play for students, parents, and the local community on several occasions throughout the school year. Music courses offered are:

Art and Music History
Band (with Teacher permission)
Brass instruments (trumpet, French horn, trombone)
Guitar
Piano
String Instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass)
Voice
Woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon)

Drama

The Dunn Drama Department stages two productions a year. Students may opt to participate in drama in lieu of one athletic season. Playwrights from Shakespeare to Steve Martin are represented in the Drama Department repertoire. The entire Dunn community turns out for the performances, all of which coincide with scheduled Parents' Weekends in fall and spring.
