Boone Dorm Donates to Haiti Relief

The following story is an example of Dunn’s Core Value, Social Responsibility, at work.

Every year Dunn School works hard to maintain and improve the quality of life in the Residential Curriculum. Recently, Susie Childs, Dean of Students, challenged each dorm to come up with a goal to better the dorm. Boone Dorm, comprised of underclassmen and selected student leaders decided that they would improve the dorm spirit by doing something for the global community. They chose to raise money to support the relief efforts that are occurring in Haiti. Michael Tseng, Boone Dorm junior resident assistant, was responsible for organizing and running the fund raiser. Michael sought the support of Dunn’s Amnesty International Club and the student government’s budget and finance committee so the fundraiser would be able to exist. Michael solicited the support of the faculty to bake all sorts of treats to sell to the Dunn community. The result of Michael and Boone Dorm’s efforts was that Dunn School raised over $550, which will be donated to Direct Relief International to support the Haiti relief efforts.
