Understanding that rigorous academic work must be balanced with the opportunity to explore extracurricular social activities, Dunn provides a variety of on, and off campus activities in which students may participate. Our campus is ideally located in a serene setting with easy proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains, and the near-perfect weather give students the opportunity to participate in many outdoor activities.
Students work with the Student Activities Coordinator to create a schedule of events that appeal to the personal interests and talents of the student community. Weekend activities vary according to student input and interest. Activities include dorm competitions, interscholastic athletics, beach trips, shopping, dining in local restaurants, concerts, surfing, school dances, movies, dramatic/musical performances, museum trips, bowling, trips to Santa Barbara, UCSB special events, and amusement parks.
Boarding life at Dunn is truly a unique experience and an enhancement to the overall Dunn School experience and education. Boarding life helps to prepare the student for life at college, providing the same responsibilities, social and developmental opportunities and personal freedoms, but in a supervised environment with appropriate boundaries. For many students boarding life is a key part of their Dunn School education and overall growth. It is through living on campus amongst Dunn faculty and students in a close-knit community that a student will find his or her identity, develop talents, enjoy an extended family and establish friendships for life.
