Boarding and Dorm Life![]() Boarding life at Dunn is truly a unique experience and an enhancement to the overall Dunn School experience and education. Boarding life helps to prepare the student for life at college, providing the same responsibilities, social and developmental opportunities and personal freedoms, but in a supervised environment with appropriate boundaries. For many students boarding life is a key part of their Dunn School education and overall growth. It is through living on campus amongst Dunn faculty and students in a close-knit community that a student will find his or her identity, develop talents, enjoy an extended family and establish friendships for life. Day students are allowed to join in most residential life activities including nightly dinners, sleepovers at the dorms, participating in weekend activities, and more. Dormitories![]() Loy House
Dunn campus has four residence halls. Loy House houses the female boarding population exclusively as well as three faculty couples who serve as dorm house heads. Loy House can accommodate 44 girls. Rooms are spacious. There is Internet access, a lounge with TV/DVD/VCR, study cubicles, and laundry facilities. ![]() Knoles House
Knoles and Boone House each sleep up to 18 boys. Built in 1998, these are the two newest dormitories on campus with modern facilities including lounge with fireplace, TV/DVD/VCR and games, a common kitchen for cooking hot meals, laundry, spacious rooms, and Internet access. Each of these dorms also houses 1-2 faculty members who serve as house heads and has a few single rooms, usually for Senior Prefects. ![]() Boone House
Senior Dorm, the oldest dorm on campus, was completely renovated in 2003 with new bathrooms, Internet access, and a new patio, which has become a hub of residential and weekend campus life. One faculty apartment is attached to this dorm. ![]() Senior Dorm
WeekendsBoarding students are subject to strict schedules in the evening. Privileges and freedom to roam campus unsupervised, go off campus (with permission), stay up after "lights out", have a microwave in the dorm room and more can be earned or taken away over the years through a system of credits and demerits. Boarding students are required to "check-in" at breakfast every morning and every dinner including weekends. ![]()
During hot weather pool parties are organized on weekends A variety of activities such as movies, dinners, pool parties, trips to the coffeehouse, shopping, surfing, dances and excursions are planned for weekends. Often unplanned activities abound, such as a casual game of Frisbee, a stroll on the beach with a faculty member, a movie in the dorm or a trip to the golf course. Sports facilities such as tennis courts, a swimming pool and running track and cross country/bike trail provide ample options to get outdoors and exercise. Almost every Saturday there are sports events on and off campus such as AYSO soccer, tennis tournaments, volleyball tournaments, and more. Finally every year Dunn hosts its "Dorm Olympics". During these games students get a chance to bond and show dorm spirit and generally have a blast competing in egg tossing, potato sack races and more. Weekend Schedule
