Dunn Fencing Team Repeats Championship Victory

For the second year in a row, the Dunn School Fencing Team took first place at the Central Coast High School Fencing Championships, besting fencers from Ventura to San Luis Obispo. Team Captain Theo Brown was also awarded the top individual title.

In addition to Theo (sophomore), Dunn's winning team was composed of John Jiang (junior), as well as two fencers from other nearby schools who train with the Dunn team: Zack Seaman (junior) and Ben Perreault (sophomore).

The league hosts a series of qualifying tournaments across the Central Coast throughout the season, culminating in a final event that took place on Saturday, May 6, in San Luis Obispo.

The first round of the event was evenly matched, with only Theo Brown going undefeated. The strongest competition came from San Luis Obispo's Pietro Capaccioni, an experienced fencer from Italy currently studying abroad. His aggressive style and long attacks proved a challenge for the Dunn squad.

In the second round, with bouts to 15 points instead of 5, Zack Seaman was matched against Capaccioni in the semi-finals. Using a wide distance and fast footwork to draw out the Italian's attack and easily defend, Seaman was able to upset the higher-seeded fencer and set up a Dunn-only final match.

The team's final placements were:

1. Theo Brown
2. Zack Seaman
6. Ben Perreault
8. John Jiang
